Special Approval - Annexation
Governing Code: Zoning
Ordinance Article 3-2.3
To annex any property for
future residential or commercial development, the City of Wood
River must abide by law as stated in Illinois Compiled
Statutes (Chapter 65 ILCS 5/7-1). This involves notifying
taxing authorities, public hearings, proper filings with
officials, review by Planning Commission and ultimately the
approval of the City Council. Not fulfilling all the
obligations as set by law can invalidate an annexation and
possibly interrupt services. Although annexations can be
accomplished in several different ways, the process Wood River
wishes to use is voluntary annexation.
Property owners will be asked
to "petition" the City for annexation. It will be
the responsibility of the property owners wishing to annex to
gather the addresses and notarized signatures of all owners
and other affected residents of the property. The City will
provide the property owner with a complimentary annexation
plat, which is required for the petition. The City staff will
take all of the necessary steps to abide by State Statute
before requesting final approval of the City Council.
Review Process:
Staff Review → Planning Commission → Council
Action
Assuming
deadline compliance, estimated length of process: 60 days
