D.A.R.E. Officer

| D.A.R.E. Officer, Brad Unser |
The City of Wood River and the Police Department believes
that the D.A.R.E. program is essential to our children’s
education and skills they need for the mission to say no to
drugs and violence. Additionally, it establishes positive
relationships between students and law enforcement,
teachers, parents, and other community leaders. Every
youngster should have the opportunity to grow-up healthy,
safe, secure, and equipped with the skills needed to succeed
in life. Contemporary America, however, is rampant with
challenges that could keep children from a positive life
path.
Officer Brad Unser trained at Illinois Central College in
2006 to become a certified D.A.R.E. Officer. He teaches a 17
week course at Lewis & Clark Elementary School on every
spring semester. The three fifth grade classes meet weekly
with Officer Unser and participate in this educational and
enjoyable experience, culminating with the D.A.R.E.
graduation in May. Throughout the entire school year,
Officer Unser also eats lunch and visits with the students
so that his presence is felt through the entire school.
The police department is proud of Officer Unser and feels
he will be a great asset to all involved.
