City Infrastructure
The city tax rate was raised as of 1/1/09 to 6.85%. This rate
reflects an increase of .25% due to the addition of a Madison
County Flood Prevention Tax. The money collected will be used to
help with the maintenance of the Madison County levees.
The city has submitted $8.9 million in Economic Stimulus
infrastructure projects for review by the new Presidential
Administration. New projects would include storm sewer
separation, roadwork, curb and guttering, among other things.
Approximately $250,000 of stimulus funds have been allocated
for the 6th Street overlay project. It appears the City will
also be receiving approximately $9 million in funding for
stormwater improvements which will aid in alleviating flooding
issues in the area of 9th Street to 14th Street. The City is
starting the $500,000 curb, guttering and asphalt overlay
projects for the west side of town in the Little Italy area and
also the Berry Road area.
